Akrochem Expands SiteAkrochem Corporation has completed a $500,000 upgrade of its headquarters in Akron, Ohio. In addition to expanding the site's office space, a new computer system was installed, and laboratory and quality control functions can now handle greater volume.

Süd-Chemie Solidifies Identity

To better reflect their global presence, all subsidiary companies of Munich-based Süd-Chemie AG will adopt the Süd-Chemie identity and change their names. In the US, United Catalysts Inc. is becoming Süd-Chemie Inc., and UCI's business unit Süd-Chemie Rheologicals will be called Süd-Chemie Rheologicals and Performance Additives.

Akzo Forms LLC

Because of a recent legal restructuring of its business, Akzo Nobel Chemicals Inc. has formed the Delaware limited liability company Akzo Nobel Polymer Chemicals LLC. All company contracts associated with the polymers business will be assigned to this newly formed unit.

PPG Wins PACE

PPG Industries has won a Pace (Premiere Automotive-supplier Contribution to Excellence) award for its Enviracryl powder clear coat. The company is the first coatings manufacturer to win the award. One of its clients for Enviracryl is BMW, which uses the coating on its 3-, 5-, and 7-series. PPG was also a PACE finalist for its Power Prime e-coat process, which applies two coatings by immersing negatively charged vehicle sections in positively charged coatings.

Creanova's New Distributor

Creanova Coatings Raw Materials has appointed Avon, Ohio-based Maroon Inc. as its exclusive distributor for Ohio, western Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska.

ISOs Awarded

Praxair Inc.'s semiconductor process gases facility in Kingman, Ariz., has recently been awarded ISO-14001 certification. Milsolv Corporation, a subsidiary of Brenntag Inc., has also received ISO registration. Milsolv is the first chemical distributor serving the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to achieve ISO-9002 registration.

Johnson Picks Tartan Color

Johnson Polymer has appointed Tartan Color and Chemical Inc. as its Canadian distributor. TCC will distribute the entire Johnson product line.

Color System From Hanna

M.A. Hanna Company's new color matching system, Speed-e-Color, enables the company to determine a precise color match and deliver a molded sample chip to a customer within 24 hours. Standard color matching turnaround is five to seven days. The new system is portable, with a spectrophotometer and color-matching software hooked into a laptop, which is then plugged into the company's information bases of color formulations.
