SINGAPORE (CNI)--Degussa-Huls, the German specialty chemicals company, expects its planned electronic-commerce (e-commerce) joint venture with enterprise resource specialist SAP and other Germany chemical majors to bring about an overhaul of its global procurement.

In a Degussa-Huls release CNI received Friday, board member Peter Purwien said that he sees the e-commerce venture leading "to a complete restructuring of global procurement of our industrial supplies, services and raw materials."

"The lean processes will make our purchasing operations faster and more reliable, and markets will become more transparent," he added.

Chemical companies such as BASF, Henkel and Metallgesellschaft announced Wednesday (22 March) that they will link up with SAP's mySAP.com e-commerce platform to create a Internet-based marketplace for chemicals.

Key functions of the venture, which will encompass logistics, finance, export and import, and product safety, are scheduled to go online in Q2 this year, while the whole marketplace is scheduled to be fully operational by year's end.
