HOUSTON (CNI)--Air Products and Chemicals (AP) announced Friday a temporary surcharge on sales of merchant industrial, medical grade, and cylinder gases to North American customers.
Effective immediately, AP will add a surcharge of 9 cent/100 standard cubic feet (scf) of liquid argon and liquid/bulk hydrogen and helium. A surcharge of 5 cent/scf liquid/bulk oxygen and nitrogen also is effective immediately, as well as for the medical grades of oxygen and nitrogen.
The company also announced $2.50 (Euro2.63) surcharge for delivery of cylinder gases as well.
Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania-based AP is raising by 10% its prices for liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen and helium, plus bulk oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and helium. The prices for medical grade oxygen and nitrogen are being raised by 12%.
In a statement, AP attributed the price hikes and surcharges to higher fuel cost, an industry-wide driver shortage, and anticipated peak power costs for the summer months.
