HOUSTON (CNI)--Chevron Chemical said Thursday that its 363 000 tonne/year polystyrene (PS) plant in Marietta, Ohio is back in partial production after recovering from a steam outage.
Stan Weber, plant manager for the Marietta crystal PS facility, told CNI Thursday that "We experienced some unplanned downtime on our new crystal line, associated with a steam outage." The outage affected both production lines at the site, he said.
One line is back in production, although Weber declined to specify production rates. He also declined to say exactly when the plant went down.
But Weber said the second line is being brought back into production and Chevron does not anticipate any serious supply problems.
"We are working with a few customers who have been asked to take some voluntary reductions in their liftings this month," Weber said. "We don't expect the supply problems to go beyond that. We should be back to normal production and meeting all customer requirements in short order."
He added that "Our inventories are tight, but we don't anticipate any shortfall beyond the voluntary reductions that customers have already agreed to take." Weber said the facility shutdown was "not very serious."
Chevron Chemical is headquartered in Houston. Marietta is located in southeastern Ohio on the Ohio River.
