HOUSTON (CNI)--Ecolab announced Friday it has purchased the assets of Korea's Dong Woo Deterpan (DWD), a marketer of institutional cleaning and sanitising products and services.
Financial details of the purchase were not disclosed. However, Seoul-based DWD reported sales of about $6m (Euro6.3m) in 1999.
DWD will be combined with St Paul, Minnesota-based Ecolab's existing operations in Korea. The acquisition is expected to "significantly" expand Ecolab's sales in that country, the company said.
Allan Schuman, president and chief executive at Ecolab, said: "We are pleased to expand our operations in South Korea, where it's fast growing economy and rapidly developing hygiene standards auger well for Ecolab's world-class cleaning and sanitising products and services. We believe this also will result in improved service levels and new opportunities for our customers in South Korea, as well as leverage our existing operation's scale."
Ecolab focuses on the development and sale of cleaning, sanitising, pest elimination, maintenance and repair products and services for the hospitality, institutional, food and beverage, and industrial markets.
The company reported 1999 global sales of $3bn.
