SINGAPORE (CNI)--Celanese, the German industrial chemicals company, is close to starting up its new 500 000 tonne/year acetic acid plant on Singapore's petrochemical hub, Jurong Island, CNI learned Friday.

While declining to comment officially, a company source here said: "As far as I know, they are doing everything possible to get the unit running soonest."

Singapore-based Japanese traders, who are generally well informed, told CNI last (26 June) week that the plant would begin production early this week.
