LONDON (CNI)--Germany's Celanese AG announced on Tuesday plans to streamline its chemicals operations into three global business units.
Knut Zeptner, member of the Celanese AG board and chemicals chief executive, will retire on 31 August and, from 1 September, global business responsibilities for acetyls, solvents and intermediates, and acrylates will be handled from the Dallas, Texas headquarters of Celanese Chemicals.
Hariolf Kottman, currently heading US chemical intermediates from Summit, New Jersey, will move to Dallas where he will be vice president and general manager of the global acetyls business.
John O'Dwyer, who is head of US acetyls in Dallas, will become vice president and general manager of the global solvents and intermediates operations.
Douglas Madden, currently head of business services for Celanese in Dallas, will be vice president and general manager of the international acrylates business.
Claudio Sonder, Celanese chairman, said of the re-organisation: "We are focusing on growth and performance of our businesses by simplifying the organisation and by empowering our most experienced global managers."
A spokesman for Celanese AG explained that the re-organisation reflected the company's recognition that its key operations should be run as global businesses to gain maximum benefit from increasingly global markets.
Celanese confirmed that the search for a replacement for Zeptner on the Celanese AG board is under way. The new board member responsible for chemicals will, however, be an external appointment. Zeptner, who was born in 1944, has been with the company for more than 30 years.
