LONDON (CNI)--German chemicals company Degussa-Huls is to raise fumed silica and special oxides prices outside the North America Free Trade Area (Nafta) region from 1 October.
It said Wednesday that prices for Aerosil standard fumed silica grades will be increased by 6% and prices of special oxides will be raised by more than 6%.
A spokeswoman for Degussa-Huls said the exact price rises will vary according to grade and application. She was unable to provide further details.
Degussa-Huls put up prices of fumed silica and special oxides within the Nafta region in May. Prices were raised by an average of 5%.
It explained that significant increases in the cost of raw materials, employment, freight and environmental protection measures were responsible for the decision to raise fumed silica prices. Degussa-Huls added that higher research and development (R&D) were also a factor in the decision to increase special oxides prices.
In June Degussa-Huls announced a 5% price rise for precipitated silicas and silicates, blaming energy cost increases for the move.
