SINGAPORE (CNI)--Japanese chemicals major Tosoh Corp expects to bring onstream in May 2001 a new quartz processing plant in Taiwan, CNI was informed Thursday.
The unit will help meet increasing demand from the Taiwanese semiconductor industry for fabricated quartz products, and further strengthen Tosoh's position in Asian quartz markets, according to corporate communications officer Jennifer Smith.
Tosoh aims to boost annual sales by its quartz division from Yen20.0bn ($190.5m/Euro220.9m) to Yen50.0bn "within a few years", Smith added.
Construction of the Yen1.5bn Taiwan unit, sited at Tainan Science Industrial Park, began at the end of 4 September week.
