MONTE CARLO, Monaco (CNI)--Further strong growth in the world market for elastane fibre yarns was forecast here on Thursday, with demand seen rising from about 135 000 tonne/year in 2000 to almost 190 000 tonne in 2005.
Delegates at Tecnon Consulting's Petchem 2000* conference heard that elastane yarn production would have to grow at an annual rate of 12-13% to meet forecast demand.
In a paper prepared by Stan Dobson of consultants Tecnon (UK) but delivered in his absence by Tecnon (UK) managing director Charles Fryer, it was also pointed out that DuPont would further increase its already dominant share of the overall elastane yarn market through a series of joint ventures in the non-branded or generic sector.
*Petchem 2000 is organised by consultants Tecnon (UK) and continues on Friday (29 September).
