Technip wins $17m Jordan fertiliser project from Kemira jv

LONDON (CNI)--French engineering group Technip has won a turnkey contract from Finnish-Jordanian joint venture Kemira-Arab Potash to build a nitric acid plant in Aqaba, Jordan.

Technip's $17m (Euro20.2m) contract calls for its subsidiary Krebs-Speichem to design and build a 350 tonne/day (115 500 tonne/year) nitric acid plant. The Technip group will also be responsible for basic and detailed engineering, equipment supply, construction, training and technical assistance.

The fertiliser plant is to use monopressure technology from Grande Paroisse, the subsidiary of Franco-Belgian group AtoFina. The plant is scheduled to be completed in 2002.

Aqaba is planned to be the site of a larger fertiliser complex, which will also include a 150 000 tonne/year potassium nitrate plant and a 75 000 tonne/year dicalcium phosphate unit. The Kemira-Arab Potash joint venture is also developing those facilities.
