BP restarts Grangemouth, Scotland ethanol plant

LONDON (CNI)--BP restarted its ethanol plant at Grangemouth, Scotland over the weekend, a spokesman for the Anglo-American energy and chemicals giant confirmed on Monday.

The 200 000 tonne/year unit, which has been suffering from catalyst problems, had been shut for maintenance. It was not immediately clear when the unit would be back to full production.

BP blamed problems at Grangemouth, together with catalyst trouble at its Baglan Bay, Wales plant, when it declared force majeure last month on UK ethanol and ethyl acetate supplies. Last week, BP said its force majeure declaration is expected to last until at least the end of this year.
