LONDON (CNI)--Norsk Hydro said Friday it has decided to pull out of its proposed joint venture fertiliser project in Jordan.
Hydro Agri Jordan (HAJ), a joint venture between the Norwegian group and Jordan Phosphate Mines Co (JPMC), had planned to build phosphoric acid and complex fertiliser production facilities in Jordan.
But Norsk Hydro revealed today that it has withdrawn from the joint venture because higher priority has been given to other investment opportunities within the group's core business areas - oil and energy, light metals and agrochemicals.
Norsk Hydro added that it will continue to look for joint business opportunities with JPMC.
The HAJ project involved production of 440 000 tonne/year of phosphoric and sulphuric acid at Eshidiya plus granulating plants at Aqaba with the capacity to produce 1.2m tonne/year of NPK (nitrogen-phosphorous-potassium) and phosphate fertilisers.
