LONDON (CNI)--Finnish Chemicals announced Monday it has acquired private US chemicals company Huron Tech Corp in a move that boosts its strength in pulp and paper chemicals in North America.
The Finnish company said that both firms' goal of strategic growth means no job cuts or reductions in production activities are planned as a result of the acquisition. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Huron's sodium chlorate activities will operate as Finnchem - the umbrella name of Finnish Chemicals pulp and paper activities. The acquisition brings Florida-based Huron's two sodium chlorate plants at Augusta, Georgia and Eastover in South Carolina into Finnish Chemicals' portfolio.
In a statement, Finnish Chemicals added that both firms' electrochemical activities should also benefit from the deal.
Finnish Chemicals said the acquisition will also result in increased investment in Huron's ClorMatic swimming pool sanitisers. The Finnish firm's fine chemicals operation Delicato Chemical is unaffected by the deal.
