LONDON (CNI)--Israeli fertiliser and industrial chemicals firm Rotem Amfert Negev has acquired a dicalcium phosphate animal feed plant in Bandirma, Turkey from the small Turkish company Opal.

The plant has a capacity of 80 000 tonne/year and also produces monodicalcium phosphate and monocalcium phosphate. No financial details of the transaction were disclosed.

Rotem Amfert, which is part of Israel Chemicals Ltd (ICL), said the acquisition will help expand its business in Turkey, particularly in its core phosphates market.

Meir Ben David, Rotem Amfert's finance director, told CNI that output from the plant will be sold mainly within Turkey but also to export markets. He said the plant had been idle for several months but has now been restarted.

ICL plans to merge Rotem Amfert with another fertiliser subsidiary, Dead Sea Works.
