The Chemical Industry Data Exchange (CIDX) is to become an independent standards body for e-commerce in the chemicals industry.
An overwhelming majority of members of the CIDX voted last week to take responsibility for the new Chem eStandards initiative set up by industry leaders including BASF, BP, DuPont, Dow Chemical, Eastman, Rohm and Haas and Shell.
Kathi Neal, CIDX's board of directors' chair, said: 'Expanding our mission to become the industry standards body is a part of our natural evolution to meet the demands of the new economy.'
Restructuring will be complete by February 2001, and details of the standards will be posted on www.cidx.org after they are finalised in January next year.
