SINGAPORE (CNI)--Japanese chemicals major Tosoh said Wednesday that its US silica glass materials unit, Nippon Silica Glass USA Inc, will be called Tosoh SGM USA Inc from 1 January 2001, as part of a realignment of its global silica glass operations.
Tosoh SGM will focus in particular on the semi-conductor industry, where demand for high-purity silica glass materials will continue to increase following the start of production of 12-inch wafers, Tosoh said in a statement.
The US unit is Tosoh's sales and distribution channel for silica glass materials, zironica powders and advanced ceramic products.
The renaming follows the recent name change of Tosoh's quartz material producer NSG Yamaguchi Co Ltd, which is now called Tosoh SGM Corp, and the transfer of the sales function for silica glass from Nippon Silica Glass Co Ltd to Tosoh's quartz division, the statement said.
