Seegott Opens in Canada

Seegott Incorporated, a US specialty chemicals distributor, has opened two offices in Canada. Seegott of Canada Inc. officially began operations on January 2, with facilities in Mississauga and Longueuil, Quebec. The expansion was prompted by a request from Seegott's key principal partner, Wacker Silicones Corporation. Seegott will represent Wacker in Canada.

BOC Offers E-business Tool

The BOC Group announced a new e-business package, BOC Arrowhead, which will provide customers in North America with lifecycle management of industrial gases products. The package will be available either as a software product or as a Web-based service.

PACE Ends Lockout

The Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union (PACE), Local 4-227 in Pasadena, Tex., has ratified a labor agreement with Crown Central Petroleum that puts an end to a dispute that resulted in a five-year lockout. The new contract provides wage increases of about 11.5 percent in an employee's first 13 months, with additional increases based on future national oil bargaining.

Apps4biz, getPlastic Unite

Apps4biz.com, a provider of Net business applications, has partnered with getPlastic, a business-to-business e-marketplace that offers standard plastic resins and custom compounds on the Web. Plastics processors that use apps4biz.com will be able to access Resinate, getPlastic's proprietary business process efficiency platform. In turn, getPlastic site members will be able to directly access app4biz.com's product offerings.

Eden Announces Results

Eden Bioscience Corporation has declared the results of a trial program for its Messenger application successful. Three different Messenger spray programs increased cotton yield by approximately 10 percent, compared with untreated cotton. In field trials targeting nematodes, Messenger-treated cotton averaged over a 20 percent increase in yield.

Klockner Takes Over

Klockner Pentaplast GmbH has taken over the production of PVDC-coated plastic barrier films in Roth (near Nurnberg, Germany) from VAW Aluminum AG. The business will be run by Klockner affiliate Aerni-Luch AG, which specializes in pharma barrier films.

GATX Changes Name

GATX Chemical Logistics has officially changed its name to ChemLogix LLC, following a company buyout by management. Although an independent entity, ChemLogix will remain an affiliate of GATX Corporation.

Pertamina Chooses UOP

Pertamina, the state-owned gas and oil company of Indonesia, has named UOP LLC as the technology supplier for a new 52,000-barrels-per-stream-day (BPSD) grassroots naphtha complex at a Balongan refinery in Indramayu, West Java. The planned start-up for the complex is January 2003.
