LONDON (CNI)--German contractor Krupp Uhde and Italian process technology specialist Gruppo De Nora have agreed to form a 50:50 electrolysis technology joint venture as part of a wider collaboration in alkaline chloride research and development (R&D).
To be headquartered in Milan, Italy, the joint venture aims to improve performance in turnkey services for electrolysis plants, said Krupp Uhde in a statement. Its objective is also to reduce energy consumption and optimise technology.
The new company will be headed by Krupp Uhde's Adrian Schervan and staffed by De Nora employees, a spokesman for the German company told CNI.
De Nora's cell element and electrode coating facility will enable the joint venture firm to supply from one source complete electrolysis plants to alkaline chloride industry customers, said Krupp Uhde. It hopes this will strengthen the two companies' position in the face of intense international competition.
