HOUSTON (CNI)--Washington Group International (WGI) has won the contract for engineering and procurement services in the construction of a $300m (Euro333m) polylactic acid (PLA) plant by Cargill Dow, the company said Thursday.

As previously announced, the Cargill Dow joint venture will build the facility in Blair, Nebraska and hopes to have it operational by next year.

Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, Washington Group said it generates $5bn in annual revenues with more than 39 000 employees in 43 states and more than 35 countries.

Minnetonka, Minnesota-based Cargill Dow plans to produce plant-based feedstock at Blair for production of its NatureWorks polymer and use in consumer plastic products.
