JAKARTA (CNI)--Dow Chemical intends to merge its two petrochemical operations in Indonesia, PT Pacific Indomas Plastik Indonesia (PIPI) and PT Dow Polymers Indonesia (DPI), in a bid to increase efficiency, the company told CNI on Monday.
PIPI and DPI will be merged into PT Dow Chemical Indonesia, the company said, adding that government approval for the merger has yet to be received.
PIPI is a polystyrene (PS) producer with an installed capacity of 50 000 tonne/year, while DPI is a styrene butadiene latex (SBL) producer with an installed capacity of 30 000 tonne/year. The two companies are located in Merak, in west Java, and previously were joint ventures with the Salim Group.
In 1999, Dow acquired the Salim Group’s 50% shares in each of the companies.
Dow’s other company in Indonesia is PT Pacific Chemicals Indonesia, a Dow AgroScience subsidiary, which produces and sells agricultural chemicals such as pesticides.
