Air Products starts construction

Increasing global demand from the semiconductor industry has prompted Air Products to begin construction of a second plant to produce tungsten hexafluoride (WF6), an electronic speciality gas. Phase one of the new facility at Hometown, Pennsylvania, in the US, will be completed by early 2002, with an initial 45 tonne/year available to supply contracted customers. The company will bring on an additional 90 tonne/year in two additional phases 'as customer and market demand dictate'.

The new plant will incorporate identical technology and will be a duplicate of its existing facility at Hometown, expanded in 1999 to produce 136 tonne/year.
