SINGAPORE (CNI)--Taiwanese polystyrene (PS) major Taita Chemicals' new 100 000 tonne/year PS plant will come onstream within the next one to two weeks, a company spokesman told CNI on Monday.
With this expansion, the combined total output of PS, expandable polystyrene (EPS) and acrylonitrile-butadiene styrene (ABS) from Taita's Kaohsiung City, Taiwan facility will go up to 230 000 tonne/year, from the current 130 000 tonne/year, he added.
Test runs have begun and supplies of offgrade output have already been executed.
Technology for the new plant, which will specialise in high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) and general-purpose polystyrene (GPS), has been sourced from the US-based Nova Chemicals.
The company also has a 100 000 tonne/year EPS plant in China.
With the additional output from the new plant in Taiwan, Taita hopes to increase sales and post better results from the second quarter this year onwards. Taita made an operating loss of NT$14.5m ($449 767/Euro495 576) in Q1 this year on sales revenues down 26.8% to NT$904.1m.
