LONDON (CNI)--Basell, Europe's largest producer of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), is to increase its prices for PE products by Euro100($88.6)/tonne from 1 September.
"Despite our best efforts, margins have eroded over the last two months and we need to take this action now to achieve an acceptable result," said Manuel Fraga, senior vice president of PE marketing and sales at Basell.
He added: "The situation has been particularly disappointing in low density polyethylene (ldPE)."
Fraga said that Basell plans to reduce temporarily its ldPE and high density polyethylene (hdPE) capacities in Aubette, France and Wesseling, Germany.
