BASF considering new Indonesian plant

JAKARTA (CNI)--German petrochemical and drug major BASF is considering building a plant in Indonesia for the production of automotive refinishing paint, according to the company's country President Danny Jozal.

Jozal says while plans for the plant are still in their early stages, BASF Indonesia has already appointed PT Catur Warnaindah Sentosa as sole Indonesian agent for BASF's R-M refinishing paint.

He says BASF is considering making Indonesia its production base for refinishing paint, although it is too early to talk about the capacity of the plant or how it might be financed.

BASF will evaluate the performance of its newly appointed agent for six months to a year before making a final decision on whether to go ahead with the plant.

Catur Wanaindah is affiliated to PT Catur Sentoasa Adiprana, one of the largest coating distributors in Indonesia, with 200 employees and annual sales of Euro102m ($106m).
