Norsk Hydro Sells Oleochemicals

Norsk Hydro has agreed to sell its fatty acids chemicals company Hydro Oleochemicals to Oleon NV, the former TotalFinaElf's division for fatty acids chemistry. Hydro Oleochemicals, located in Norway, has production capacity of around 40,000 tons of fatty acids and derivatives.

Rohm and Haas Adds Business

Rohm and Haas Company has acquired the flexible packaging adhesive business of Technical Coatings Company, a subsidiary of Benjamin Moore & Co. of New Jersey.

Ciba Unveils China Plant

Ciba Specialty Chemicals has opened a new production plant and regional technical and training center for its textile effects segment in the Panyu district of Guangzhou, China.

Monsanto's PCB Woes

Monsanto Company is the target of a number of law firms that charge PCB contaminants from a former Monsanto plant run by Solutia leaked into local waterways and neighborhoods. Among the united legal players are Jere Beasley, Burr & Forman, Shelby & Cartee, and Johnny Cochran.

PolyOne Groundbreaking

PolyOne Corp. has launched a $4.3 million expansion of its color compounding plant in Glendale, Ariz. The expansion will almost double production output, improve rapid response capabilities by focusing on a customer-specific small and medium lot order range, and enhance customer service for the Western region.

Reichhold Adds Gel Coats in Norway

Reichhold Inc. will make a significant investment to expand its facilities in Fredrikstad, Norway, to include the production of gel coats by January 2003. The project also includes a new warehouse for finished goods, including trading products which make it possible to ship all major product lines from a single source.

Eastman Gets Tax-Free Status

Eastman Chemical Company has received tax-free status from the Internal Revenue Service regarding the previously announced plan for a spin-off under which Eastman Chemical will be separated into two independent, publicly traded companies--Eastman Company and Voridian Company.
