Dow Reichhold latex jv begins ops, names Welker president

HOUSTON (CNI)--Reichhold's Jeff Welker was named president of Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex LLC, a specialty latex joint venture of Dow Chemical and Reichhold that began operations Wednesday, the companies said.

Welker, who previously served as senior director of corporate planning for Reichhold, also announced members of the joint ventures' top management.

Said Welker: "We have a strong leadership team which will position us for growth in the specialty latex market. We have some of the best resources in the business and we will use the knowledge and experience of our leadership team to provide added value to our customers."

Senior management includes:

• Malcolm Jones, vice president of research and development. Previously, Jones served as global research and development director of Dow emulsion polymers.
• Tom Kraska, vice president of supply chain. Kraska served as a member of the business strategy team for Dow's Cal/Mag business.
• Robert Povlock, vice president of finance. Povlock was director of financial analysis for Reichhold emulsions polymers systems.
• Rick Emerson, vice president of manufacturing. Emerson served as latex plant production leader for Dow.
• Barb Bowker, business development director. Bowker joined Reichhold in 2000 as North American market manager for Reichhold's emulsions business.
• Dave Gartshore, commercial director/Americas. Gartshore joined Dow in 1979 as inside sales for the basic chemicals business in Montreal, Quebec.
• Kent Him Heng, commercial director/Asia Pacific based in Penang, Malaysia. He previously spent two years with Reichhold's emulsions business.
• Thibault Laumonier, commercial director/Europe. Laumonier served as marketing manager for specialty latex of Dow Europe.

Headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex operates two latex production facilities in Cheswold, Delaware and Chickamauga, Georgia.

The joint venture employs 400.

Dow of Midland, Michigan is a science and technology company with annual sales of $30bn.

Reichhold, headquartered in Research Triangle Park, is a manufacturer of adhesives, coatings, performance resins and polyester resins, for the coatings, textile, construction, transportation, marine and graphic arts markets.
