Akzo Nobel Polymer Chemicals and South Korean company, Keum Jung, will jointly build a new plant in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China, to mainly produce methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP), an Akzo Nobel spokesman said. The capacity of the proposed plant has not been decided yet.

Akzo Nobel will hold an 80% stake in the project. The two companies signed a joint-venture agreement on 17 December for the project, which is due onstream in early 2004.

The proposed facility will be located on the premises of Coin Akzo Nobel Peroxides in Ningbo, which is a China-based subsidiary of Akzo Nobel. The plant will use the technology of both Akzo Nobel and Keum Jung and will also produce cyclohexanone peroxide and dimethyl phthalate.
