The Spanish subsidiary of Huntsman Tioxide has awarded Lurgi Life Science a contract for the expansion of its plant used in the regeneration of waste acid from its titanium dioxide (TiO2) plant in Huelva, Spain.
Work is scheduled to begin on the expansion next month, with the completion slated for November this year. Once complete, the capacity of the waste plant will have increased by 30%.
Lurgi Life Science added that the contract is valued at E10m ($8.8m) and its scope includes engineering, supply of equipment and commissioning. Waste acids from TiO2 production will be reused in the manufacturing process. Huntsman Tioxide is currently expanding TiO2 capacity at its Huelva site. By the middle of this year output will rise to 96 000 tonne/year from 90 000 tonne/year.
