LONDON (CNI)--Dow Chemical announced on Wednesday plans to increase its European polypropylene (PP) resin prices by Euro100 a tonne from 1 February. It also said market conditions for polyethylene (PE) resin prices would continue to be kept under review.
The price increase follows more robust demand for PP and PE resins in Europe this month, said Dow. It added that depleting inventories at resin converters and continued strong demand will cause an increasingly tight supply pattern for PP and PE resins in the coming months.
Current PP prices still do not allow for acceptable margins, the company explained.
European spot prices for PP copolymer are currently around Euro610 a tonne. Homopolymer rafia and injection prices are around Euro574/tonne.
Earlier this month, Dow's rival Basell confirmed plans to raise its European PP and polyethylene (PE) prices by Euro100/tonne from 1 February.
