HOUSTON (CNI)--ExxonMobil has agreed to purchase and market all the isopropyl alcohol (IPA) produced by Lyondell in a 22 686 tonne/year quantity as a by-product at Lyondell's complex in Bayport, Texas for an undisclosed price and time frame, ExxonMobil told CNI Monday.

While Lyondell is a relatively small producer of IPA, ExxonMobil ranks among the largest with a facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana that makes 295 000 tonne/year.

While the IPA from Lyondell's Bayport facility does not appear to be a core product for the Houston-based company, ExxonMobil said its chemicals unit is "well-positioned" to buy and market it.

ExxonMobil is an integrated oil company headquartered in Irving, Texas.
