DuBay, the 50:50 joint venture between DuPont and Bayer, has selected engineering contractor Inventa-Fischer to build its 80 000 tonne/year high viscose polybutene terephthalate (PBT) plant at Hamm Uentrop, Germany. The plant is due to start up in the third quarter of next year.

Under the turnkey contract, Inventa-Fischer will provide technology, engineering, construction, plant control and commissioning. The project will require a total investment of E50m ($45m). The value of the contract was not disclosed. The plant is said to be the world's largest PBT production facility. PBT is an engineering polymer which has applications in the automotive and electronics sector.

Ticona and DSM are also considering plans to build a joint venture PBT unit. The companies said they anticipated having the production plant in place by 2003 (ECN 16 October 2000).
