Carmean succeeds Hempstead as Millennium Chem GC

HOUSTON (CNI)--Millennium Chemicals said Wednesday C William Carmean has been named senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary and elected to Millennium's operations committee.

Carmean replaces George Hempstead, who retired from the position in January after serving for over 20 years.

Carmean has served in various positions within the legal department of Millennium and its predecessors since 1990, including vice president/legal of Millennium Chemicals, associate general counsel of Hanson Industries and corporate counsel of Quantum Chemical.

Prior to 1990, he was associate general counsel of Bristol-Myers Squibb in Princeton, New Jersey and an associate at Breed, Abbott and Morgan in New York City.

Separately, Marie Dreher, vice president/finance was elected to Millennium's operations committee.

She has served as vice president/finance since March 2001 and has held several positions within Millennium including senior vice president and chief financial officer of Millennium's titanium dioxide (TiO2) business and vice president and corporate controller.

Millennium Chemicals of Red Bank, New Jersey is a major international chemicals company, with leading market positions in a broad range of commodity, industrial, performance and specialty chemicals.
