SAN ANTONIO (CNI)--Occidental Chemical Corp (OxyChem) was cited Monday for "exemplary" performance in environmental and employee safety issues by the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA).
Speaking at NPRA's 27th annual International Petrochemicals Conference (IPC) here today, NPRA chairman Duane Gilliam presented the trade group's "Exemplary Recognition" award to Dallas, Texas-based OxyChem for its efforts "above and beyond the norm" in implementing "Responsible Care" principles at OxyChem facilities.
"Responsible Care" is an environmental, employee safety and community outreach program promoted by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and adopted by NPRA three years ago. The program outlines principles for environmental performance and products and for safe operations and employee health protection. It also advances community awareness and education efforts.
The "Exemplary Recognition" award presented to OxyChem cites the company's "significant commitment, leadership and outreach efforts" and its performance "above and beyond the norm" in "Responsible Care" areas.
NPRA is headquartered in Washington, DC. ACC is based in Arlington, Virginia.
The IPC concludes Tuesday.
