Mexico's Pemex petrochem output increased 5.7% in February

MEXICO CITY (CNI)--Petrochemicals output by state-run oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) rose 5.7% in February compared with a year ago, Pemex said Tuesday.

Total February output among 13 categories reached 796 000 tonne versus 753 000 tonne last year, the company said.

Ethylene production rose 15% in the month reaching 84 000 tonne from 73 000 tonne a year ago.

Ammonia output skyrocketed 67% to 70 000 tonne while propylene output was basically flat at 23 000 tonne. Ethylene oxide also was flat, reaching 23 000 tonne. Low-density polyethylene (ldPE) production was 25 000 tonne, up 25% from last year.

High-density polyethylene (hdPE) output was 13 000 tonne, basically flat compared with February of last year. Meanwhile, vinyl chloride production was flat at 14 000 tonne from a year ago.

The "other chemicals" category was 520 000 tonne in February, representing a 1.8% increase compared with 511 000 tonne last year.
