LONDON (CNI)--PetroChina is expected to begin construction of its new low density polyethylene (ldPE) plant at Daqing, Heilongjiang province in China in Q3/Q4, CNI was told Thursday by equipment supplier Basell Licensing and Catalysts.

The 200 000 tonne/year plant has an investment cost of $50m (Euro57m), said Werner Breuers, president of Milan, Italy-based Basell Licensing and Catalysts. The company is supplying its Lupotech T technology to the project.

Breuers said the Lupotech T technology should enable significant cost savings in production but declined to specify the estimated percentage in improved savings.

The plant is being built by Italian engineering group Tecnimont and is scheduled to come onstream in 2004.
