Kvaerner awarded $23m China copolymer plant contract

SINGAPORE (CNI)--Anglo-Norwegian engineering and construction group Kvaerner has been appointed the turnkey contractor for a 20 000 tonne/year acetal copolymer resins project in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu, China.

A Kvaerner spokesman said on Thursday that the contract for the project, a joint venture between DuPont and Asahi Kasei, was worth $23m.

Construction on the joint venture project will start in 1-2 months' time. Startup is slated for Q2 2004, and the proposed plant's capacity will be gradually increased to 60 000 tonne/year in several phases after the plant comes onstream.

The schedule of the expansion after the startup has not been fixed.
