TORONTO (CNI)--Resins manufacturer and distributor Albis Plastics confirmed Monday that it will close its Toronto compounding plant in June this year, laying off some 60 workers.
A spokeswoman at the company’s plant here told CNI today that Albis’ customers - which include BASF, Bayer and Eastman - will not be affected as production will be shifted to the company’s US base in Rosenberg, Texas.
She declined to specify Albis’ manufacturing capacity at the plant here, which is located at Pickering, east of metropolitan Toronto.
Albis has total worldwide production capacity of 130 000 tonne/year from five facilities.
Albis, which describes itself as one of the leading compounders and distributors in the NAFTA region, last year generated sales of some $40m (Euro44m).
Albis Plastics GmbH, the company’s parent company, is based in Hamburg, Germany.
