HOUSTON (CNI)--Online chemicals marketplace ChemConnect said Monday it has signed up six additional leading chemicals firms as subscription clients for ChemConnect's negotiation tools and related online services.

Houston-based ChemConnect said Atofina, BP Chemicals, Dow Chemical, DSM, ICI and Rohm & Haas have joined ChemConnect's trading centre and self-service auction facilities.

Financial terms of the subscriptions were not disclosed.

John Robinson, president and chief executive of ChemConnect, said that since the firm announced its new subscription-based pricing late last year, "we have seen a significant shift towards company-wide adoption of our tools and services." Subscribers to the ChemConnect marketplace and services "buy and sell chemicals and plastics both on the spot market and to establish long-term contracts," the company said in a statement.

ChemConnect said that more than 8000 member companies in 135 countries use the company's online marketplace.

(CNI's parent company, Reed Elsevier, has an equity share in ChemConnect.)
