Report on testing

Friends of the Earth is set to release a study into the chemical testing methods proposed under the European Union's chemical policy review. The report, due out later this month, will question the validity of claims that one million tests will be required under the European Commission's White Paper: A strategy for a future chemicals policy. It will also look at the number of animals required for testing and the viability of alternatives.

Campaign fund

The British Chemical Distributors and Traders Association (BCDTA) is asking its members to contribute the equivalent of 50% of their subscription to create a fighting fund for the association's campaign against the European Union's chemical policy review. Melvyn Whyte, BCDTA chairman and managing director of UK-based distributors Whyte Group, said, to show his commitment to the campaign he he will levy a £1 ($1.5) surcharge on every invoice sent to customers.
