HOUSTON (CNI)--Huntsman announced Friday the formation of a new North American intermediates business unit within its surface sciences division and named vice president David Parkin to head the new unit.
The new intermediates business unit will include Huntsman's operations for ethylene oxide (EO) and the unit will be responsible for commercial development of EO's primary derivatives, including glycols and much of Huntsman's chanolamines business.
Parkin now serves as vice president of corporate purchasing. He also has responsibility for Huntsman's European and Asian supply chain. Huntsman said Parkin will retain his purchasing responsibilities until a successor is appointed.
Gabriel Kow, president of Huntsman surface sciences, said: "Parkin is ideally qualified to assume control of this new business unit. In addition to his superb management skills, he already is well acquainted with the surface sciences business."
Kow said that as vice president of corporate purchasing, Parkin "has had considerable experience with helping to improve the business's raw material cost base and supply chain. He will make a great addition to our global leadership team."
Surface sciences is one of four operating divisions in Huntsman, the largest privately held chemical company.
