SINGAPORE (CNI)—Tosoh Corp will double its hydrophilic gel resin capacity to 50 000 litre/year at its plant in Shinnanyo, Yamaguchi, Japan, by March 2003, a company spokesman told CNI on Thursday.

The Japanese petrochemicals producer will spend Yen500m ($3.97m/Euro4.21m) to expand its facilities for producing hydrophilic gel resin - a pharmaceutical intermediate used to purify and separate biochemicals such as enzymes and antibiotics.

The Tosoh spokesman said that hydrophilic gel resin is sold under the brandname Toyopearl. He added that demand for Toyopearl is growing from pharmaceutical producers.
