LONDON (CNI)--European polyolefins producer Basell said Monday it expects the proposed national strike in Spain on Thursday (20 June) to have only a minimal impact on its production in the country.

A spokeswoman told CNI that Basell has already taken the necessary preparations to minimise the impact of the strike on chemical production at Tarragona.

She added that Basell will try to maintain its current rate of operation, subject to the availability of workers.

The strike has been called by trade unions after the Spanish government adopted measures to cut unemployment benefits. It is expected to last one day.

Basell produces high density polyethylene (hdPE) and polypropylene (PP) at Tarragona.
