Plans by Finnish chemicals group Kemira to spin off its fertiliser
business Kemira Agro have prompted a major restructuring of the
group's administration and service organisations.
Kemira is to combine the administration and service functions of
parent company Kemira Oyj and the chemicals, paints and coatings
businesses. The change will involve the loss of an unspecified
number of administrative jobs. It was prompted by the decision to
spin off Agro into a separate company, in which ownership will be
shared with the Finnish government and an external industrial
partner.
Agro's administrative and service support will be reorganised in
preparation for the new ownership structure and this led to a
review of the overall administrative set-up.
About 250 people are employed in administration for the holding
company and the core business areas. An unspecified number of
people are employed in other areas of administration.
Kemira said in a statement last week that negotiations over job
cuts would begin in August.
As part of the streamlining plans, Kemira is to set up a new shared
services centre - Kemira Services. It will offer services to the
business units for administration, finance and accounting, IT,
personnel management and engineering.
