HOUSTON (CNI)--Plastics compounder and resins maker A Schulman said Monday it will spend $7.4m (Euro7.4m) to build a manufacturing facility in Dongguan, China.
The Akron, Ohio-based company said in a statement the facility near Hong Kong is expected to be operational within 18-24 months.
Calls to the company seeking additional information were not immediately returned.
The initial manufacturing line will have an annual capacity of 18 148 tonne/year, the company said, and will produce products for Schulman's film, packaging and automotive markets in China.
Said Schulman: "Additional lines could be added in the future to capitalise on new business opportunities in the Chinese plastics market, which is growing approximately 20% annually."
A Schulman is an international supplier of high performance plastic compounds and resins.
