Sabic sees normal PP output soon at Gelsenkirchen, Germany

LONDON (CNI)--Sabic EuroPetrochemicals is hoping soon to resume normal production of polypropylene (PP) from its 550 000 tonne/year plant in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

The company was forced to shut the plant's larger, 300 000 tonne/year, unit at the beginning of this week following a substantial reduction in supplies of propylene feedstock from a nearby BP cracker.

Eric Hogenboom, Sabic EuroPetrochemicals business manager for PP, confirmed to CNI on Thursday that although sufficient propylene had been received to maintain production from the smaller, 250 000 tonne/year, PP unit, the larger unit had been shut for several days.

He said  Sabic EuroPetrochemicals hoped to restart output from the larger PP unit soon following assurances from BP that normal propylene supplies would be resumed shortly.
