LONDON (CNI)—DuPont is to continue supplying its engineering products to Resin Express until the end of the year, despite its announcement last week that it was terminating its agreement with the UK distributor with immediate effect.

DuPont (UK) and Resin Express said in a joint statement on Friday that they have “reached an agreement which will ensure, until 31/12/02, the continued supply of DuPont engineering products to Resin Express”. They added: “Conditions for ongoing supply thereafter are under discussion.”

DuPont Engineering Polymers announced a week ago that it was terminating its distribution contract with Resin Express with immediate effect and that it would supply its customers directly.

Resin Express, which is a member of Belgium’s Ravago group, subsequently stated that DuPont's termination of the agreement with immediate effect did not comply with the contract between the two companies.

Neither side has disclosed details of the termination, although it is thought to be partly related to a new distribution agreement between Ravago and one of DuPont's competitors, BASF. The German major has reorganised its European distributorships and helped establish a new company, Ultrapolymers, which is partly owned by Ravago.

DuPont Engineering Polymers manufactures and sells Crastin polybutylene terepthalate (PBT) and Rynite polyethylene terephthalate (PET) thermoplastic polyester resins, Delrin acetal resins, Hytrel thermoplastic polyester elastomers, Minlon mineral reinforced nylon resins, Tynex filaments, Vespel parts and shapes, Zenite liquid crystal polymers (LCP) and Zytel nylon resins.
