SINGAPORE (CNI)--China's Yangtze River Acetyls Co (Yaraco) is on track to complete the expansion of its existing 200 000 tonne/year acetic acid plant in Chuanwei, Chongqing, in the second half of 2004, a well-placed source told CNI on Thursday.

Yaraco received approval from the Chinese government to debottleneck the plant to 350 000 tonne/year in late 2001.

The source added that Yaraco had brought onstream an 80 000 tonne/year ethyl and butyl acetate facility, sited next to the acetic acid plant earlier this year.

The source said the plant was currently operating very satisfactorily.

Yaraco is 51% owned by BP, 44% by Sinopec Sichuan Vinylon Works and 5% by Chongqing Investment and Construction Co.
