Japan’s Taiyo Vinyl to acquire Kureha’s PVC business

SINGAPORE (CNI)--Japan’s Taiyo Vinyl Corp will acquire the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) business of Kureha Chemical Industry Co by 1 January 2003, a Taiyo company spokesman told CNI on Friday.

Taiyo, an affiliate of Tosoh Corp, did not disclose the value of the acquisition, but said that the takeover will enable it to boost capacity utilisation and increase efficiency in marketing and distribution..

The deal includes Kureha’s 100 000 tonne/year PVC plant at Iwaki, Fukushima, Japan.

Taiyo operates three PVC plants in Japan, with capacities of 310 000 tonne/year at Yokkaichi, 170 000 tonne/year at Osaka and 90 000 tonne/year at Chiba.
