TORONTO (CNI)--Sterling Pulp Chemicals’ (SPC) plans for a sodium chlorate facility in Australia are still on track, despite the acquisition of SPC by Calgary, Alberta-based Superior Propane, officials confirmed Thursday.
SPC and Superior officials said today "the (Australian) project is going forward" but they stressed that before "we make any decisions of a final nature" more studies and information will be needed.
The officials were responding to questions during an analyst briefing here on Superior’s purchase of SPC for $375m (Euro371m) announced Wednesday.
Toronto-based SPC said in 2001 that it planned a 60 000 tonne/year sodium chlorate plant in New South Wales, Australia budgeted at $55m that would, if it were built, serve markets in Australia, South Africa, Asia and Japan.
